We demand the Government enforce the ban on polythene bags

Today is International Plastic Bag Free Day. Environment and Social Development Organization (ESDO) in partnership with Poribesh Bachao Andolon (POBA) met outside the National Press Club to form a human chain and ask the government to take action and enforce the ban on polythene bags in Bangladesh. The human chain was also an opportunity to raise public awareness regarding the negative impacts of using polythene bags. Members of different environmental organizations joint together as a human chain and spoke out against the production, use and availability of polythene bags. If the use of polythene bags continues in our country, the environment will be greatly affected by the negative effects of polythene including land pollution, water pollutionand the blockage of drains and sewerage system. People are still using polythene bags as while there is a law banning plastic bags, it is not strictly enforced.
