Mr. Graner Marak, Divisional Director of WVB and Mr. Bongopal Sarder, General Secretary, Lahanti Foundation has jointly open signboard and declaring the Zero Waste Resource Center officially open. Siddika Sultana , Executive Director, ESDO & Dr. Shahriar Hossain, Secretary General, ESDO were present in time of launch. Community leaders thanked ESDO and Lahanti Foundation for the program, which had improved their livelihoods and made the village a cleaner and more hygienic place to live.
ESDO has initiated the Zero waste village project since some years and from 2011ESDO started its work formally on managing solid wastes to make those wastes as a resource and build a “Zero waste Village”. ESDO has chosen a village named Mohalan in Rajshahi District to make it a model village for all based upon a vision of- “to build a model of organic and environmentally safe and sustainable village that will be called Zero Waste Village”. More than 50% of the households of Mohalan already implemented this waste management process in their house. Hopefully, by June 2014, ESDO will declare Mohalan as a zero waste village and will endorse it for other villages.
